#6 Escape the Prison of Perception: Free Yourself from Limiting Beliefs

Updated: May 12

Many people find themselves trapped in a prison of perception, feeling little to no hope for their future. The assumptions they make about their ability to shape their own lives limit their imagination and restrict their possibilities. This self-imposed prison is made up of bars, bricks, and guards, all of which are imaginary, yet they feel very real. These mental walls are lies that have been learned and programmed into the subconscious from outside influences— whether from family, society, or personal experiences.

At times, these walls may have been put up to protect you. They may have served a powerful purpose at one point in your life, keeping you safe from harm or disappointment. But as life changes, the same walls that once kept you safe can now hold you back from achieving your full potential. Over time, the patterns that were once meant to protect you become habits and routines that run your life on autopilot. While life may continue, you’re not truly living if you're confined to predictable patterns that stifle your personal growth.

Routine can be a trap. The comfort of a predictable schedule and habits can become a prison, blocking your access to unlimited potential. It also robs you of the growth opportunities that stem from stepping into the unknown. As humans, we have a deep need for uncertainty, challenges, and new experiences. The human spirit thrives on variety and adventure, and when your life becomes too predictable, your subconscious will create challenges and disruptions to break the monotony.

If you don’t proactively seek out challenges and growth, life will force them upon you. It’s part of the human condition to need uncertainty for sanity and happiness. When we resist uncertainty out of a desire for comfort, we imprison ourselves in fear of the unknown. This leads to dissatisfaction and, eventually, unhappiness. Personal growth is the source of true happiness, and it’s your choice whether to break free from the assumptions and perceptions that limit you or stay confined in a prison of your own making. You have the power to alter your perception and tell yourself new truths that empower you to create the life you truly desire. Escaping the prison of perception requires courage, the willingness to challenge your comfort zone, and a commitment to growth. Don’t let fear or routine keep you from the magnificent future that awaits you.

"Are you bigger than your bad habits or are your habits bigger than you?" - CM

"The only real prison is fear, and the only real freedom is freedom from fear." – Aung San Suu Kyi

Action step: Pick one comfort in your life that you know is holding you back. It could be food, smoking, a relationship, a job, or any other habit that’s imprisoning your ultimate happiness. Commit to breaking that habit by replacing it with a more empowering one. Set yourself free from the chains that bind you

Ask yourself: What assumption or routine in my life is holding me back from my true potential, and how can I break free from it?
