Imagination is more important than memory. We are all blessed with imperfect memories, and that’s a good thing. Forgetting the bad experiences allows us to move forward. Yes, we also forget the good, but this is where imagination becomes more powerful than memory. With imagination, we can envision an infinite number of possibilities for our lives. We can even re-imagine past memories.
The truth is, most of what we remember isn’t perfectly accurate. We only recall about 20% of a live presentation, for example. Memory is complex—it’s not just words we recall. We subconsciously remember smells, sounds, physical sensations, emotions, and other sensory details. This complexity makes memory unreliable, often distorting events
Imagination, on the other hand, has the power to transport us
and shift our mental and physical state in deeply personal ways. We can re-imagine a past event and transform it into something empowering. Imagination allows us to take a negative, traumatic experience and reshape it into something beautiful.
The power of imagination can uplift our spirits, fuel our creativity, and provide relief from depression. When we actively engage our imagination in a positive way, it energizes us and promotes happiness. As human beings, we are gifted with creative thinking, and with that ability, we’ve shaped the world around us. Our incredible lifestyles are the result of imaginative, creative thought processes.
No matter what challenges we face, there is always a creative solution. Believing in the power of imagination is like having a key to unlock any situation. By training your mind to use creativity to rethink and reframe your life, you build momentum toward your goals “Using imagination to set meaningful goals, and then applying creative thinking to generate solutions, is what makes life champions."
